All Jailbreak and Unlock Guides for iPhone, iPod and iPad

The last few weeks we got three jailbreak tools for iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPod touch 4G, 3G, 2G and iOS 3.2.2 on iPad (i.e. Limera1n, GreenPois0n and PwnageTool), in addition to the presence of other jailbreak tools for all several iOSs, all this has led a confusion among iDevices users, so I decided to collect all iOSs, jailbreak guides and unlock guides for all existing iDevices in one article. Check them after the jump.

Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1 with Ultrasn0w [How to Guide]

Have you jailbroken your iPhone 4 yet? Of course, yes! Geohot has released his Limera1n tool yesterday and it works with iPhone 4 very well (at least for me). If you have iPhone 4, you can upgrade to iOS 4.1 without updating the baseband then unlock it using Ultrasn0w. In case you already upgraded to iOS 4.1 while preserving your baseband, you will not be able to use this guide, just wait for a new Ultrasn0w update.

How to upgrade to iOS 4.1 while preserving your baseband 01.59.00

STEP 1: Download TinyUmbrella latest version from here and iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4 from here.

STEP 2: Close iTunes & connect your iPhone 4 to your PC then launch TinyUmbrella and select “Run as administrator”. If you got a Windows Security Alert, check both boxes and click on “Allow Access”.

STEP 3: Hit “Start TSS Server”. While the TSS Server is running well, TinyUmbrella will kill iTunes.
STEP 4: Now launch iTunes and click on the iPhone icon at the left sidebar of iTunes then hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) + Shift from the keyboard. Point it to the iPhone 4.1 firmware you already download.
STEP 5: iTunes will go in a bunch of steps to restore your device to iOS 4.1, it should give you error 1004 which indicates that the baseband is preserved successfully.

STEP 6: Get back to TinyUmbrella and hit “Kick Device Out of Recovery” to get your device out of Recovery Mode. let's unlock!

How to unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1 baseband 01.59.00 with Ultrasn0w

STEP 7: First, you will need to jailbreak your device using Limera1n jailbreak tool from Geohot by following the step by step guide posted here.

STEP 8: After jailbreaking, open Cydia and touch on Manage >> Sources >> Edit and hit the Add button on the top. Type http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com then hit “Add Source”.
STEP 9: After installing the repo, go back to Cydia and search for Ultrasn0w, tap on it and it will be installed automatically.
Well done, now you got iPhone 4 totally jailbroken & unlocked on baseband 01.59.00, congrats. We will be happy to hear your questions about any issues or problems facing you while following the guide.

Unlock Baseband 05.14.02 to Arrive After iOS 4.2 Release

We already told you that hackers as Sherif Hashim and Clayton Braash are working on crashing baseband 05.14.02 (iPhone 3GS, 3G) and 02.10 (iPhone 4). Well, the carrier unlock for those baseband won't be available for iOS 4.1. You will have to wait for iOS 4.2.
This was from unknown sources of Vincent:
The iPhone Dev-Team won't release an unlock for iOS 4.1 basebands (05.14/02.10). Wait for 4.2.
That's bad news for users who are looking for upgrading iOS 4.1 jailbreak this Sunday. For iPhone 4 users, you can upgrade to iOS 4.1 while preserving your baseband by following our how-to guide posted here. Also remember, GreenPois0n which supports hacktivation coming out this Sunday and will not (until now) jailbreak iPhone 3GS (new bootrom) and iPod touch 3G, you will have to wait for comex to release a new userland jailbreak as JailbreakMe.

Hackers Are Working on Unlocking Baseband 05.14.02 for iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.1

Here's a piece of good news! Last week, we told you that Unlock for iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.1 on 05.14.02 baseband is being delayed because both Chronic Dev Team and iPhone Dev Team are busy developing the jailbreak tool (based on SHAtter exploit) for all devices running iOS 4.1. The good one is that basband hacker Sherif Hashim has just confirmed to us that he is working on crashing baseband 05.14.02.
Sherif Hashem is a trusted member worked with the dev-team to crash baseband 05.13.04 on iOS 4 before which used in Ultrasn0w 0.93. So, if he could successfully crash 05.14.02 baseband, we will see unlock soon. By the way, there's a hacker called Clayton Braasch said that he found 4 crashes to unlock baseband 05.14.02, but this is 99.99% fake (as confirmed before), so don't get your hopes up about this hacker. As usual, we will keep you updated.

Update 1: Well, Sherif Hashim apologized to Clayton Braash and now I think they are both working on finding crashes to unlock baseband 05.14.02, hope they get it as soon as possible. Here's the potential unlock found by Braash in a video,

Ultrasn0w Unlock for iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1, 05.14.02 Baseband Delayed

Chronic Dev Team and iPhone Dev Team are working hard to bring you a simple usb-based jailbreak tool to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on all devices including iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPad, also new Apple TV. Of course some of you have upgraded to iOS 4.1 without preserving baseband, the baseband has been updated to 05.14.02 for iPhone 3GS or 2.10.4 for iPhone 4.
Ultrasn0w is the responsible tool to unlock all devices but Chronic Dev Team has to answer people with a simple tweet saying that they are both Chronic and iPhone Dev teams busy in developing the jailbreak tool which may be named GreenPois0n. So, they can't give an unlock for those stuck on 05.14.02 baseband.
To those asking about unlock: At this time, only the jailbreak is being worked on, as it requires the team’s full attention.
Don't be disappointed. Once they finish the jailbreak tool for all devices, they will start working again on unlocking these basebands, but don't lame them because the one who should be lamed is you as you updated without putting in mind that you will be stuck.

How to: Jailbreak iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1 with PwnageTool

While waiting for iOS 4.1 jailbreak release (may be SHAtter?), we will give a guide to jailbreak iPhone 3GS old bootrom only on iOS 4.1 using a modified version PwnageTool from Criminal90 with the help of some other tools which is essential in the jailbreak process.
This guide requires iPhone 3GS old bootrom on 3.1.2 (jailbroken with Blackra1n) or on 3.1.3 (jailbroken with Sn0wbreeze / Pwnagetool not with Spirit). If you have SHSH blobs of 3.1.2 or 3.1.3, use our guide posted here to downgrade, then jailbreak your device and follow the step by step guide below.

Note: Do it on your own RISK, we are not responsible for any damage happens to your device.

Step 1: Download the required files,
  • Download iOS 4.1 firmware and save it on your desktop,
  • Download iTunes 10 and install it,
  • Download the modified PwnageTool and iOS 4.1 Jailbreaker
Step 2: Launch PwnageTool and connect your iPhone via USB, you should be promoted with a warning message, hit OK to start.
Step 3: Click on Expert Mode button, select iPhone 3GS, then hit the blue arrow.
Step 4: You will be brought to the "Browse for IPSW" page. click on Browse for IPSW and point it to iOS 4.1 you already downloaded above.

Step 5: Now click on "General" to begin the customization,
  • Deselect Activate if you have an iPhone legitimately activated on an official carrier.
  • Adjust the partition size as you want, or leave it as it's.
Step 6: [Optional] After you end customizations, hit the blue arrow. Now you are in "Cydia" page, through this page you can add repos in Cydia and install applications as you want.
Enter "Manage Sources" section to add repos, then select the "Download packages" tab and click the Refresh button to display all the available packages. Double clicking the package you want will download it and make it available in the "Select Packages" tab. Make sure that everything is fine and hit the blue arrow.

Step 7: In this page, you can uncheck both Boot logo and Recovery logo to keep default Apple's logos or click on "Browse" to replace them with another image then hit the blue arrow.
Step 8: Now the Pwnage process will start, select "Build" button to start building your custom firmware. You will be asked to locate the place to save the custom firmware, select anywhere (i.e. desktop) and hit "Save". Building the firmware process will start.
Step 9: The process will take up to 10 minutes. While creating the custom firmware you will be asked to write your system password, DON'T write it! Instead, install iOS4.1Jailbreaker installer package (downloaded above with PwnageTool) and hit "Continue" twice and write the admin password if required.

Step 10: Now switch back to PwnageTool and type in your password. You will get a pop-up that will tell you to put your iPhone in Recovery Mode and restore with iTunes.
Step 11: Now launch iTunes, sync your device. Once in iTunes, hold the Alt / Option key and click Restore. Locate the create ipsw file, click OK and let iTunes extract, verify and restore your iPhone 3GS.
Step 12: Now you have to get out of recovery mode, download TinyUmbrella, launch it and click on "Kick Device out of Recovery Mode"

Step 13: Well done, you have an iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1 jailbroken and you will find Cydia on your home screen. But you may face this problems:
  • If Cydia has a blank icon (no repos) load it go to Manage > Sources > Edit > Add and add http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7
  • If Safari web browser is crashing, add http://repo.woowiz.net repo and install Safarifix
How to: Unlock iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1:
To do so, you need to be activated on original SIM or Phonebook card. Follow our guide posted here to unlock iPhone 3GS on any baseband using Ultrasn0w 1.0-1.

Now a lot of people still not happy, but the world will be free very soon by the next jailbreak from pod2g with the help of p0sixninja. Just stay tuned and we will keep you updated.
