Everything You Need to Know About the New Facebook Messages

Mark Zuckerberg has announced at Facebook's press event today a new messaging system which sums up real-time chat, email, SMS, other chat clients. So get ready for your @facebook.com address.

Facebook Messages system is not a regular mail, there are no subject lines, no CC or BCC. You can send a message just by hitting the Enter key. It's going to feel like chat. A lot of times, it's going to be chat (ops!). It allows messages with more seamless, informal, immediate, personal, simple, minimal and short way, CEO & Founder Mark Zuckerburg said.

How to get it? You don't need to create a new account, Facebook mail will use your current public vanity URL. In case you have a username as mine http://facebook.com/username, you will be able to register with the same username as username@facebook.com. The revamped Facebook Messages will be rolled out to the social network’s 500+ million users over the next few months.

In case you don't like waiting, you can request an invite by navigating your browser to this link and simply hit Request and you will receive an invite soon. You can also try following @FBeMail on Twitter to score some invites.

And yes, as Zuckerberg quoted, This is a messaging experience that includes email as one part of it.

Windows Phone 7 Jailbreak First Step [Video]

Yesterday we reported about the Australian developer, Chris Walshie who is working hard to develop a way to jailbreak WP7 as well as he was successfully able to prove a method to run "native unmanaged code" on a retail Windows Phone 7 device. Let's check out this in action.
I’ll be posting the code in a couple of days, need to clean it all up. And yes, it’s a managed app running unmanaged code :)

You’ve got FULL access, create, delete, browse files etc. Just can’t delete system ROM files, IE coredll.dll (obviously).
I would imagine that we'll see the new third-party jailbreak store apps very soon, as the developers won't find the complexities such as those on iOS Jailbreak. What do you think? [via Walshie]

Windows Phone 7 Jailbreak Soon

Away from Apple iOS devices, it looks like we will see a new jailbreak scene, but this time will be on Windows Phone 7 theater. This came few weeks after the launch of Windows Phone 7 around the world, so we are about to start the cat and mouse game.
According to iStartedSomething, an Australian developer called Chris Walshie was successfully able to prove a method to run “native unmanaged code" on a retail Windows Phone 7 device.
The pieces started falling into place when user “hounsell” on xda-developers.com noticed the a third-party application in the WP7 marketplace (Network Profile by Samsung) used “native” code, not Silverlight-managed code as all non-Microsoft apps should.

Upon closer inspection, he documented some interesting characteristics of the application that gave it its native capabilities – most notably a DLL called “Microsoft.Phone.InteropServices”, which if poked the right way provided COM access.
After this techie quotation, what is the conclusion ? what is the impact on the Windows Phone 7 user? We expect to see a method or a tool to jailbreak this OS very soon which will be followed by a third party jailbreak store apps just as iOS devices Cydia app store. Of course these jailbreak apps will give your WP7 phone new powers. What do you expect?

This Guy is in Prison Because he Posted Naked Pictures of his Ex-Girlfriend on Facebook

Yes, that's true! This guy, Joshua Ashby, a 20-year-old New Zealand painter is in prison right now. Why? Because Joshy posted naked pictures of his ex-girlfriend on Facebook after they broke up.

After five months of relationship with his girlfriend, they broke up. Cuz of that, he cut up her dresses and told the lucky lady that "I'm going to kill you, dead bitch". As usual, he logged onto his ex-girlfriend's Facebook account and changed her profile picture to the naked one he had for her and guess what? he made the account public to everyone. Facebook has actually closed the account in 12 hours but this guy was unlucky.

Joshua's parents described him as intense and agreed with the 4-month prison sentence they received from New Zealand court, his mother said:
And maybe when someone thinks about doing [something like that] they'll remember someone got sent to prison for that and they'll say: `Oh my God, I'm not going to do that.
So, be careful and try to handle naked pictures with care. To be jailbroken really hurts!

Facebook's Mail Coming this Monday to Take on Gmail

Project Titan is coming on Monday in Facebook's event to take on Gmail. Facebook has acquired FB.com domain name, may be for this project. Project Titan is a web-based email client that we hear is unofficially referred to internally as its “Gmail killer”.

The event that we already reported about hinted strongly that the news would have something to do with its inbox, or chat improvements. Now, it seems like Titan is real. From here, you shall ask yourself, "Why I'll give up Gmail for Facebook mail?".
If I were Google, I would be very angry because Facebook mail could be a killer but why will it kill Gmail? Facebook has 500 million active users while Gmail is estimated at 170 million registered users. Think about it, Facebook's users are already using messaging system and chat system so may be lots of users (probably all) will try this Facebook Mail. I think if Facebook played the game right and made the best web-based e-mail, it will kill Gmail, what about you?

Steve Jobs' Personal Call with iPad Developer

Let's imagine, you are developer, you spend quality hours making a quality app, you submit it to the App Store, then..... they reject it and you are so pissed off that so you send back a flaming email. After a few hours, Steve rings you up to solve your problem.
The same thing happened to Ram Arumugam, a Seattle based app developer. So Mr. Ram here, made an iPad app named "Economy for iPad", which he obviously sent it for approval. But, the Apple genius rejects the app because he hadn't used some of the public API's provided by Apple to solve a keyboard issue. Ram Arumugam was angry so he sent an email to Apple to vent out his anger. Just after 2 hours, Steve called Ram up to sort out the problem and make him an happy Dev.
"I was very surprised," Ram told the paper. "I was not even sure whether he would have time to read the e-mail." The outcome of the conversation, however, resulted in Ram's app finally getting into the App Store. It took a conversation with Jobs to get Ram to drop the troublesome code. Subsequently, we now the privilege of checking out the $2.99 app that caused such a raucous. For Ram, of course, the ordeal was worth it. The dev was happy to report that his economic stat-filled app is now the top selling paid app in the finance category of the iPad App Store.
That really nice of you Steve! So what do you guys think? [via ModMyi, SeattleTimes]

As part of the European MoBio (mobile biometry) Project, the Manchester team has developed a demo app that can log the user into Gmail, Twitter and Facebook using just face and voice recognition. Work on the technology finishes this month and Dr Philip A. Tresadern says that a number of well-known companies in the mobile space have shown interest in using the technology.
According to Dr Tresadern we can't fool this App as it also uses our eyeblinking and face movement. He also added that they have done this experiment on Nokia N900 and this feature might also hit iPhone 4 late after their experimentation on iOS devices.
